Läckerli Huus Madagascar 64% cacao

Very well made chocolate, with a crisp snap and smooth, even taste. This bar is made with vanilla, which is a significant part of the flavor profile. Very enjoyable bar.

This is a bar purchased during our trip to France and Switzerland last year. I could not find any text on the label in English.

Dick Taylor Vietnam Tiên Giang 78% cacao

Robust cocoa burst on first taste, with a distinct flavor profile of fruit. Some of the fruit flavor has a citrus element, but most is dark berry. The aftertaste is lengthy, but less astringent than might be expected. 8.9

Amano Ecuador Guayas River Basin 70% cocoa

This is another bar that has vanilla as an  added ingredient, so no rating. But the bar was very well made, the vanilla provided a nice flavor balance, and there was a clean aftertaste.

Ingredients: Cocoa Beans, Pure Case Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Whole Vanilla Beans

Mazet Madagascar 70% cacao

This is the last of the bars I bought during my October trip to Europe. The bar is somewhat discolored on the surface, and its interior is brittle and desiccated. I am not sure that the transport from Europe caused this, but that is possible. Keep that in mind with respect to my rating.

The taste is bitter, and has none of the flavor elements I usually associate with Madagascar cacao. Some caramel notes. 5.7

Omnon Tanzania 70% cacao

Smooth chocolate experience, cherry flavor predominates. Back flavors are a nice mix of citrus and berry fruits. Short and clean finish. 8.9

Ingredients: Cacao beans from Tanzania, raw cane sugar & organic cacao butter

Weiss Kacinkoa 85% cacao

This is a quite bitter bar, not unexpected for 85% cacao. Coffee flavor can be noticed, and in the background there is a deep cherry note. Aftertaste is long lasting with a very slight chalkiness in the long tail. 7.3

Unlike the 70% Weiss bar just reviewed (Weiss Èbéne Noir 72% cacao), this bar does not contain vanilla. Ingredients: cocoa beans, sugar, cocoa butter, emulsifier: GMO-free soya lecithin.
